A review of the basics
Part 2
Are these in conflict???
Lessons on how to explain
what you believe!!!!
This chapter is of Acts is
often used to try and discredited and annul the Law. Lets take a closer look
at the chapter and break down the passage to its basic parts.
Act 15:1
Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren,
"Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot
be saved."
Act 15:2 And
when Paul and Barnabas had great dissension and debate with them, the
brethren determined that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them should
go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders concerning this issue.
Act 15:3 Therefore,
being sent on their way by the church, they were passing through both
Phoenicia and Samaria, describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles,
and were bringing great joy to all the brethren.
Act 15:4 When
they arrived at Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the apostles
and the elders, and they reported all that God had done with them.
Act 15:5 But
some of the sect of the Pharisees who had believed stood up, saying, "It
is necessary to circumcise them and to direct them to observe the Law of
Moses."
Act 15:6 The
apostles and the elders came together to look into this matter.
Act 15:7 After
there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brethren,
you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth
the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe.
Act 15:8
"And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the
Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us;
Act 15:9 and
He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.
Act 15:10 "Now
therefore why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the
disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?
Act 15:11 "But
we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the
same way as they also are."
Act 15:12 All
the people kept silent, and they were listening to Barnabas and Paul as they
were relating what signs and wonders God had done through them among the
Gentiles.
Act 15:13 After
they had stopped speaking, James answered, saying, "Brethren, listen to
me.
Act 15:14 "Simeon
has related how God first concerned Himself about taking from among the
Gentiles a people for His name.
Act 15:15
"With this the words of the Prophets agree, just as it is
written,
Act 15:16 'AFTER
THESE THINGS I will return, AND I WILL REBUILD THE TABERNACLE OF DAVID
WHICH HAS FALLEN, AND I WILL REBUILD ITS RUINS, AND I WILL RESTORE IT,
Act 15:17 SO
THAT THE REST OF MANKIND MAY SEEK THE LORD, AND ALL THE GENTILES WHO ARE
CALLED BY MY NAME,'
Act 15:18 SAYS
THE LORD, WHO MAKES THESE THINGS KNOWN FROM LONG AGO.
Act 15:19 "Therefore
it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from
among the Gentiles,
Act 15:20 but
that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols
and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood.
Act 15:21 "For
Moses from ancient generations has in every city those who preach him,
since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath."
Act 15:22 Then
it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to
choose men from among them to send to Antioch with Paul and
Barnabas--Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the
brethren,
Act 15:23
and they sent this letter by them, "The apostles and the
brethren who are elders, to the brethren in Antioch and Syria and
Cilicia who are from the Gentiles, greetings.
Act 15:24
"Since we have heard that some of our number to whom we
gave no instruction have disturbed you with their words,
unsettling your souls,
Act 15:25
it seemed good to us, having become of one mind, to select men
to send to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,
Act 15:26
men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ.
Act 15:27
"Therefore we have sent Judas and Silas, who themselves
will also report the same things by word of
mouth.
Act 15:28
"For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay
upon you no greater burden than these essentials:
Act 15:29
that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood
and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves
free from such things, you will do well. Farewell."
- Main issue: How does a
person receive redemption.
There was a disagreement
between many of the believers. It became so intense that a meeting was
called to discuss the issue.
Points to always remember
when reading Acts 15….
- ØThe
‘Yoke’ that Peter spoke about was NOT the law , Peter was referring
to trying to obtain redemption through obedience to the law. No one was
able to do this.
- ØThis
situation was a prophecy concerning Restoration, not simply a disagreement
over doctrine.
- ØPeter
knew that over time the new ‘Gentile’ believers would catch on because
they would be studying Torah and learning the principles
The dietary laws have been
abolished……..
-
Acts chapter 10 is
the basis for this belief.
This belief can
get very personal and many people do not like being told there are
certain
things
that they cannot eat. It is important to approach this doctrine
very carefully.
Act 10:1
Now there was a man at Caesarea named Cornelius, a centurion
of what was called the Italian cohort,
Act 10:2 a devout man and one
who feared God with all his household, and gave many alms to the Jewish
people and prayed to God continually.
Act 10:3 About the ninth hour
of the day he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God who had just
come in and said to him, "Cornelius!"
Act 10:4 And fixing his gaze
on him and being much alarmed, he said, "What is it, Lord?" And
he said to him, "Your prayers and alms have ascended as a memorial
before God.
Act 10:5 "Now dispatch some
men to Joppa and send for a man named Simon, who is also called
Peter;
Act 10:6 he is staying with a
tanner named Simon, whose house is by the sea."
Act 10:7
When the angel who was speaking to him had left, he summoned two
of his servants and a devout soldier of those who were his personal
attendants,
Act 10:8
and after he had explained everything to them, he sent them to
Joppa.
Act 10:9
On the next day, as they were on their way and approaching the
city, Peter went up on the housetop about the sixth hour to pray.
Act 10:10
But he became hungry and was desiring to eat; but while they were
making preparations, he fell into a trance;
Act 10:11
and he *saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet
coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground,
Act 10:12
and there were in it all kinds of four-footed animals and
crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air.
Act 10:13
A voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat!"
Act 10:14
But Peter said, "By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten
anything unholy and unclean."
Act 10:15
Again a voice came to him a second time, "What God has
cleansed, no longer consider unholy."
Act 10:16
This happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up
into the sky.
Act 10:17
Now while Peter was greatly perplexed in mind as to what the vision
which he had seen might be, behold, the men who had been sent by Cornelius,
having asked directions for Simon's house, appeared at the gate;
Act 10:18
and calling out, they were asking whether Simon, who was also called
Peter, was staying there.
Act 10:19
While Peter was reflecting on the vision, the Spirit said to him,
"Behold, three men are looking for you.
Act 10:20
"But get up, go downstairs and accompany them without
misgivings, for I have sent them Myself."
Act 10:21
Peter went down to the men and said, "Behold, I am the one you
are looking for; what is the reason for which you have come?"
Act 10:22
They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous and God-fearing
man well spoken of by the entire nation of the Jews, was divinely
directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and
hear a message from you."
Act 10:23
So he invited them in and gave them lodging. And on the next day he
got up and went away with them, and some of the brethren from Joppa
accompanied him.
Act 10:24
On the following day he entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for
them and had called together his relatives and close friends.
Act 10:25 When Peter entered,
Cornelius met him, and fell at his feet and worshiped him.
Act 10:26 But Peter raised him
up, saying, "Stand up; I too am just a man."
Act 10:27 As he talked with him,
he entered and *found many people assembled.
Act 10:28 And he said to them,
"You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to
associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and yet God has shown me
that I should not call any man unholy or unclean.

Trichinella spiralis:
Electron microscopy
This
is the parasite Trichinella
spiralis in human muscle tissue. The parasite is transmitted by
eating undercooked meats, especially pork. The cysts hatch in the
intestines and produce large numbers of larvae that migrate into muscle
tissue. The cysts may cause muscle pain and swelling in the face and
around the eyes
In the stomach and small
intestine, the capsular coating is digested, and the liberated larvae invade
the mucosal lining of the small intestine, becoming adults within a week.
After fertilization the female worm deposits larvae into the mucosa and
sometimes directly into the lymph vessels, from which the larvae reach the
blood and are carried to all parts of the body, notably the burrows of
skeletal muscles, where they reach the encapsulation stage. The muscles most
often invaded are those of the diaphragm, eyes, neck, throat, larynx, and
tongue. The larval capsules, or cysts, may remain alive in the muscles for
years, eventually becoming calcified. Unless the muscle of the host animal
is eaten by another animal, the trichinella dies in the cyst and the cyst
calcifies. If the host animal is eaten, the cycle begins again.
A few days after
exposure, an infected person becomes feverish and has diarrhea, nausea,
and vomiting. These symptoms are followed by pains in the joints,
headache, and swelling of the face, a characteristic symptom. Severe
pain develops in the muscles of the limbs, in the chest, and in the
eyeballs, and breathing is often painful because the diaphragm is
heavily infected. The illness continues for a week or two before it
gradually subsides, but in some patients the condition worsens. The
outlook depends upon the intensity of the infection. In some epidemics,
mortality may be as high as 10 to 16 percent, but many people have
attacks so mild that they are not recognized.
John 1:17
proves that a conflict exists between law and grace…..
This verse s often used
incorrectly to try and create a conflict where no conflict exists.
Joh 1:17
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by
Jesus Christ.
Matthew 22 shows the
Messiah giving us the only 2 commandments we need to obey.
This chapter, like many
before it, has been mis-used to try and discredit God’s Law and the
authority that Law has in our lives.
Let’s read the chapter
and see what its really saying…..
Mat 22:34
But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees,
they gathered themselves together.
Mat 22:35
One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him,
Mat 22:36
"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"
Mat 22:37
And He said to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL
YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'
Mat 22:38
"This is the great and foremost commandment.
Mat 22:39
"The second is like it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS
YOURSELF.'
Mat 22:40
"On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the
Prophets."
The problem with the
theory that these are the only 2 commandments we need to obey is this…….
How do you love God and
your neighbor?????????
No 2 people will ever
agree on something this important so why don’t we let God decide on how we
are to love Him and others????
